The Optimist Creed
Promise myself to be so strong that nothing can disturb my peace of mind.
To talk health, happiness, and prosperity to every person I meet.
To make all my friends feel like there is something in them.
To look at the sunny side of everything and make my optimism come true.
To think only of the best, to work only for the best, and expect only the best.
To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as I am about my own.
To forget the mistakes of the past and press on the greater achievements of the future.
To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living person I meet a smile.
To give so much time to the improvement of myself that I have no time to criticize others.
To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, and too strong for fear, and to happy to permit the presence of trouble.
p/s: aunt felicia, may you be well and happy always. =)

podiatry, 50% in the making
like most of us out there, we rely on our feet to move around and sometimes we take our feet for granted until it hurts. I'm pretty sure people out there at a certain point of their life will encounter when their foot or feet hurts so much that they cant use them right? many people don't realise their feet actually tells a story of their life, like their work, health and well-being.
I'm in an allied health field as well. and although sometimes i always think that allied health people earn their money from the pain of others, but its an exciting and fulfilling field. there are always something new to be explore every day and every client (or patient) you see has a different story behind. in my field of podiatry, we basically not only treat the foot condition, but also figuring out whats the best way and advice for our client depending on their economy status as well as their welfare. for example, we wont recommend a 300AUD pair of shoes to someone that earns 1000AUD per month.
personally i love what im doing now. i know i always wanted to do something that could help people out there and podiatry is sure one of them. it isn't as grand as becoming a doctor or as noble as becoming a nurse, or earn as much as becoming a physiotherapist, but, in this job, the return of your clients becoming free from pain and be able to help people to get back on their feet (literally) is always a good thing to see. the bad side, you will be serving the feet of other people for the next 30 years or so (unless you change jobs of course).
sometimes it kinda goes to the extreme when u notice yourself noticing way people walk and each and lumps and bumps on your own feet with all crazy conditions running through your mind. but at the end of the day, you can always tell yourself you have a more healthy feet than many people out there =)

airport.
short description on airports that time, the airport at that time is basically a roof held up by 4 walls. its open aired, no air conditioning, and ticket counters are much more taller than i was and i never had a chance to see whats happening behind the counter (i was short that time). trolleys were huge, with sharp corners and i can sit on it with someone else pushing behind. securities are lacking and simple. weight limits are practically non existing and no one rush to stand at the gate to get good seats in the plane. Oh, and we have to walk up stairs to the plane and have to carry umbrella on our own when its raining. there are no such thing as budget airlines and zero dollars air fare. there is only one gate to go to.
today, airports are a building almost like a country by itself. its more than a simple building. airports now are mostly providing free internet access, fully air conditioned, trolleys are much more lighter and cleaner, high level securities with armed police and dogs patrolling all over enforcing their own set of airport rules. limitations to what we can bring up the plane and whats not. more diverse types of people, and god knows, how many criminals, smugglers are under that roof. budget airlines are appearing out of no where and more and more people can fly. technology allows us to walk straight to the door of the plane. and people spend more time on their phones, ipods, music players or laptop compare to talking their family members.
but something is still the same between the old and the new airport. airport is a place where people will leave and return. whether is a business trip or just for their holidays, people will come and go. some might be their 1st time traveling alone, to a place unknown to them, while others will be excited about their long planned trip. no matter then time or the advancement of technology, human emotions in airports are still the same. at the departure hall, parents will repeat their advice to their kids to be careful and call home over and over again, while friends will give each other their final good byes with hugs and jokes. deep inside, feelings of sadness will not be excluded. in the arrival hall, the excitement in awaiting and the voices of taxi drivers, and mobile phone calls telling the whole world they have return brings a tiny atmosphere of celebration.
traveling alone this time back from adelaide and to adelaide, eating the most expensive 'jawa mee' dinner and teh tarik (RM 21!!) loitering around the airport terminal finding anything interesting, and talking to one of the few hundred thousand people in the terminal, finding a spot that is safe to sit without being worried of being mug, or being approached by dodgy people, or involve in so crap stuff (wasn't easy to look for the spot!!!) and making sure i was at my gate before the plane takes off isn't one of the best things that happen in the airport. i guess i understand why some people are sadden by the fact that they have to travel alone in long distance. some company during those times actually make 7 hours at the airport better.
what i hate the most today at the airports is that there are actually
airports shouldn't be this way. for me, an airport should be welcoming, and peaceful, for the people that are leaving their country to bring a good impression and for those to arrive to feel welcome. nevertheless, many of this are uncontrolled and unpreventable. i guess i should be thankful that nothing happens to me this time and the many times to come.
looking forward to the next trip back home, traveling home alone or with someone doesn't really matter to me anymore. from now i guess i could start planing so i could have time to get home sooner =) i would be looking forward to what could an airport bring in the future.

life~ the other side of the fence.
i never expect that the wave of 'destruction' will spread so wide. i thought i could control it, but no, it went way out of hand. and now, all i can do is just to stand at the middle point, and look towards the end of the seemingly never ending effects of the destruction of the path. thinking about it, and hoping that tomorrow will be a better day seems only seems to make things worst than the day before. people tell me its okay, and all, but no, its not.. its never okay.
many find my current plans very wasteful and 'out-of-your-mind'. yet, i personally feel that is the best way with whatever i have. yea, maybe my priorities in life is not right. so what, no one knows what are my priorities are anyway. i'm sorry if you are not on the top list. or maybe not even on the top 20, or not even on the list it self.
disappointment is one thing. being taken advantage, being used and being taken for granted is something else. i use to not mind to help people to do their stuff. what i mind is people thinks i'm all theirs, as if i don't have my own life, or my own plans. i know i am a flexible person and i am an adaptive person. but wait, you ask me to help you and u expect it to be done even i have my own plans? come on man.. i have my own plans, i have my own life, you don't own me okay! not even my parents own me!(sorry mum n dad, but i think u know what i mean) i hate it when i screwed up my plans. i'm already bad in planing, and thanks to some things that can be avoided, i am either late or have to scrap the whole plan off and put it on the next day. once, twice? maybe, always? maybe not. i don't like it when people think i'm all ways ready for them and no one else. that is just selfish. i love to be there for you, for joy and for sorrow, and all, but i can't always be there, i cannot promise i will always be there 24/7 for the rest of my life. no one can promise that. if one promise that, he/she's either god or lying (face it. its a fact!). if some unforeseen circumstances occurs and i change my plans then i accept it. but if its avoidable or could be done some other way which save time and energy, and was not taken? then its harder for me to understand and accept. yes im a pretty practical person.
maybe i am just to quiet, or maybe i am those that just allow people to trample all over me, allowing people to take control of my life regardless what i say. i don't blame the world for my misfortunes in life, i take that as bad karma. i try to do good as much as i can and as often as i can. maybe that just to give me a peace of mind. blaming others for your own actions are just irresponsible and pointless. the problem will still exist even if u happily throw the responsibilities to others. though i have a high level of patience, and i seldom do things expecting something in return, but i am a human after all. i have my own limits. please do not take advantage of me.
before anyone tries to get defensive and squeezing their brains thinking what they have done, the above is just a reminder to myself not to be like those mentioned because personally, it does make a better world with less of those, and im planing to improve the world im living in.

life: the unpredictables
throughout this year, there has been many life changing events, many of them is on a personal level. yet, this changes had largely impact on how i run my life now. more study and work commitments means a huge cut down on social outings. unpredicted events leads to reduce funding to relax and leisure activities. and whats more, balancing between everything takes effect to mental and physical health. these changes happened so fast that even me myself have to move and catch up with them. given the current situation as well as the snap decisions i made, hopefully they are all right, or at lease minimal damage is done for the future.
on a personal level, i am tired, not the kind of tired that a 12 hour sleep will cure. im wide awake, brain fully functional and all. but tired as there is this pile of stuff (a.k.a. life) that keeps getting higher and higher, with no end in sight, waiting for me to go through and put away. some say we suffer because we are attached to something, but can we not attached to life?? i sometimes does envy those that has better life than me, less to worry less to do.. but then, i came across something that made me take my words back.
"Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about." regina brett
i some how forgotten what people do during holidays. what they do to relax and forget everything. somehow i think my 'enjoyment' now is different from the rest of the world. not that im unhappy or some sort, in fact i don't think i even have the time to complain about things that gone bad throughout the day. its either i be patient and wait for the day to end and i will start over tomorrow, or i will just deal with it, and move on to the next thing on the 'to-do-list'. after all complaining doesn't do me any good. i keep telling myself i need a break, i need to go for a holidays and all, but things tend to change and plans dump into the bin. is my planing skills that bad?? i guess i have to find methods to cut the ropes and chains that tie me down.
there are so many questions left unanswered now. but given the current condition now, its either its not important, not urgent or i just don't have the time to go find the answers, maybe this questions will one day haunt me and take me down, but fingers cross, the answers will soon appear. i guess i really need a 'lonely planet' guide book to life. anyone saw the signboard that points to the direction of my life?? anyone saw it?? anyone???
i guess i will stop complaining now, after all im not a fan of complaining, in fact i don't get the point on complaining. oh well, one last quote from regina brett, If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's, we'd grab ours back

all hail coffee~
so recently, i came across an article about coffee... copy n pasted the whole thinggy.. hehe.. since their english is so much more better =P
YOUR HEALTH
Upper A recent US study by the University of Scranton found that coffee is a significant source of antioxidants, reducing cancer and heart disease risk. Harvard researchers also found that drinking more than four cups a day defends against gallstones and cirrhosis of the liver. This is thanks to its soluble fibre, which also explains your midmorning appointment with the sports section.
Downer You can't get your five-a-day from Gloria Jeans. "Coffee doesn't provide the same variety of antioxidants that fruit and veg do, and they're harder to absorb," says the author of the Scranton study, Dr Joe Vinson. And there's a bitter taste in the post-dinner cup: drunk within an hour of a meal, coffee reduces absorption of iron and immune-boosting zinc, a French study by the University of Lyon found.
YOUR HEART
Upper Easing fears of heart-breaking news for heavy drinkers, Harvard researchers tracked 128,000 people for 20 years and found drinking more than six cups of coffee a day didn't increase heart disease risk. Even better news: last year, scientists at Brooklyn College in New York found men who drank four cups of coffee a day had a 53 per cent lower risk of dying of heart disease than those who never took a sip. A great excuse to lurk round the coffee machine in the presence of that gorgeous marketing assistant.
Downer Caffeine makes your arteries constrict, raising your blood pressure. "However, if you don't have hypertension to begin with, the temporary blood-pressure increase isn't a problem," says cardiologist Dr Matthew Sorrentino. "Plus, the impact on blood pressure tends to be significantly lower in regular caffeine drinkers because their bodies become tolerant to its effects." .
YOUR BRAIN POWER
Upper Beyond merely helping you stay awake in that early meeting, drinking one or two cups of coffee before tasks can increase your short-term recall and alertness, reports a study by the University of Arizona. "Caffeine also has a mild mood-elevating effect," says Dr William Lovallo, professor of psychiatry and behavioural sciences at the University of Oklahoma. "That's because it releases dopamine, which stimulates the area of your brain that is responsible for pleasure." In the longer term, caffeine has been found to slash your risk of developing Alzheimer's by as much as 60 per cent, and Harvard researchers have also found that drinking four cups a day can halve your risk of developing Parkinson's disease.
Downer Drink more than four cups a day and that caffeine hit merely relieves withdrawal symptoms, rather than lifting your mental abilities above the caffeine-free competition, according to researchers at Bristol University in the UK. To ensure the beans keep you full of beans, limit yourself to just the two cups a day and sink your mug 10 minutes before crunch-time
YOUR WAISTLINE
Upper Caffeine's an appetite suppressant that also turns up the kilojoule-burning heat of your heart rate and metabolism. "Drinking six cups per day combined with exercise and a low-fat diet can boost fat-burning by up to a fifth," says Catherine Collins, chief dietitian at St George's Hospital in London.
Downer "Without the exercise and diet changes, there's currently no proof it has any significant effect on its own," says Collins. That delicious Italian pastry lurking on the saucer won't help either.
YOUR MUSCLES
Upper Caffeine revs your nervous system, increasing heart rate and breathing, which primes your body for peak performance. And caffeine may also have a direct effect on your muscles. The experts reckon it triggers extra calcium release in your muscles. "This means stronger muscle contractions," says Dr Terry Graham, professor of nutritional sciences at the University of Guelph in Canada.
Downer "Other chemical compounds in coffee appear to counteract caffeine's ability to impact your exercise session," explains Graham. So to achieve these positive effects, you're better off using caffeine pills or caffeinated energy drinks. Shame, the latte protein shake sounded good.
YOUR ACHING HEAD
Upper Big night? Stick on the kettle. Caffeine increases production of stomach acid, helping your body absorb pain-relief drugs more quickly, according to research in the Archives of Neurology.
Downer Go cold turkey and your grey matter won't thank you. "Sudden caffeine withdrawal invariably causes headaches, so wean yourself off by cutting your intake by half every other day," advises Dr Frankie Phillips, of the British Dietetic Association. Or swap beans: arabica beans have about one per cent caffeine, while robusta pack double that. "Roasting reduces caffeine content, so stronger taste can actually mean less caffeine," says the British Coffee Association's Zoe Wheeldon..
AND YOUR SMILE?
Upper An espresso a day may keep the dentist away. Chemicals in coffee prevent tooth decay by stopping bacteria attaching to your enamel, Milan University researchers found.
Downer A scrape could still be needed. "Coffee prevents bacteria sticking to your enamel by sticking to it itself, which can cause discolouration," says Dr Amolak Singh, of the UK's General Dental Practitioners Association. Brush with a toothpaste containing baking soda to keep your whites pearly.
YOUR BIG GAME
Upper The Australian Institute of Sport found the equivalent of a single espresso before excercise can increase endurance levels by up to 25 per cent, mobilising fatty acids and providing fuel for active muscles. So pack that thermos in your kit bag.
Downer Coffee is a liquid-leaching diuretic, up to 10 times less effective than water for replenishing body fluids. And if you drink more than four cups immediately before exercise you put a potentially lethal strain on your heart, according to Collins, who recommends you "stick to one cup
so.. with all the benefits... and erm.. little bad stuff.. why give up coffee right?? all hail coffee drinkers.. may you live long and healthy!!!
coffee!! coffee!! coffee!! *chants*

the walking orange
its now been 1 and a half years that i not been to malaysia. the next time i go back.. maybe i will be a tourist more than going home. haha.. a malaysian friend of mine once said, once u been in adelaide for a long time, and when u go back to malaysia, u will do what normal australian tourist do like taking pictures on all the food u eat back home. hmm.. maybe i will do that when i go back.
so what have i done throughout the whole winter??
somehow i find this question pretty easy to answer for this holidays.. one word.. work
so ur pretty rich now hey??
nope.. still as poor as usual.
since my last paper on a saturday, i officially have 3 weeks holidays for my winter break before the start of a new semester. most of the time i have i spend working in my part time jobs. being paid lower than a 18 year old's pay rate... anyway.. better to have a job than nothing to do right?? a bit about my work here..
currently im working 2 part times in adelaide.. both also a walking distance from my home, which is good.. and i consider myself lucky to have them. one of the is in a restaurant as a kitchen hand.. and what i do is basically everything in the kitchen including cooking.. yes i do prepare food in the kitchen.. surprisingly i find working there pretty fun, while others thinks that in the kitchen is a hell's hole where the boss uses u to your limits to maximise his profit, as for me, i would put it that, the boss has his expectations and u should work towards it, and maybe better.. not trying to cut corners because ur being lazy or something. after all, food is still an essential part of life right?? and ur preparing the essential part of life, isn't that something you should be proud of? oh yea.. u deal with all the dirty plates, half eaten food and all.. yet, if u think of it, u did prepare the food in the 1st place, so what, if ur gross out about the food u prepare, why prepare it then?? right??
okay.. 2nd job. officially im name as a lab technician. but, this lab doesn't deal with any test tube, or syringe or blood products or chemicals u normally find in any science lab. the lab im working in is actually more like a workshop. we have grinders, ovens, saw, n compressors.. and lots of plastics and plenty more dust!! yay~~~ ahem.. back to the point.. this lab produces orthortics (something u put into shoes to correct your walking patten). and yes, i make orthotics.. fun part of this job is... i can listen to my own music while working, start and finish work when ever i feel like it, and i basically work alone.. not that i love working alone.. but then working alone allows you to practice your vocal skills, and the sound of the grinder will shadow your voice from being heard. haha.. in saying that, this job requires accuracy to the millimeter of measurement in making the cast, understanding thermodynamics of plastics, good artistic skills, good eye judgement, moulding skills with clay type material as well as a very very quick reaction.
as many of my friends here notice, both jobs involve high risk of injury of the upper limbs... my hands are loaded with scars marks.. pretty ugly now. *sorry mum n dad =(* but overall, it doesn't carry much after work thoughts. everything about work will basically disappear once i leave the place, therefore its pretty much worry free jobs. so i guess i could say i love my work. so much so that i think my bosses likes me a lot.. which isn't a very good thing for me... i always want to tell them.. 'I'm a lousy worker.. don't put so high hopes on me!!!' but no.... they keep saying I'm great, and increase the pay pretty quickly when i started till the maximum level now.. so isn't that a good thing?? hmmm... maybe not..
now u might be thinking... hey.. aren't u suppose to be in adelaide to study and not work?? of coz im here to study, priority of coz will be given to studies n classes and all.. and of course my full time occupation now is a student =) and no im not a workaholic.. and yes, i love going to uni =) after all uni is the place the real fun work is =) assignments and exams, and chance to make people bleed and walk away with it all in the name of student =)
and yes.. im crazy hahaha...

rubik cube
lets put our life's into perspective. in today's society, everyone is aiming to be a prefect person. perfect personality, perfect family, perfect home, perfect choices and all. yet most of us will agree in this world, there is no such thing as perfect. the definition of perfect could mean the best of all, yet nothing will satisfy the craving of perfectness in human nature. a primary 5 kid will aim for a 100% for his/her test which he/she consider perfect score. yet as an adult, whats perfect? the word perfect has been use to lure all kinds of people into getting stuff, perfect holiday destination, perfect home, perfect car and perfect job. and 2 days later the once said perfect will be no longer be the perfect choice as a new perfect choice appear. so what happens to those that made the perfect choice before??
sadly, choices human are creatures that link to other creatures(including plants and animals) that share the same place they are living in. humans are link to other humans some way or other. therefore decisions made by a single human will cause a domino effect to others as well.. in fact there is a chance the decision made is part of a domino effect of another decision the other end of earth.
back to the rubik story. by aiming to be a perfect person, one might cause other creatures into more misery IF the person works alone. and if a perfect person doesn't want to give way, then others will not be able to be perfect. yet, if an imperfect person, refuse to be perfect, then others might not be able to be perfect as well. complex?? not really.
a twisting motion of a rubik cube will cause changes to at lease 3 other sides of the cube. if a single side refuse to move, then the other sides will not be able to move as well. putting it into life, if a perfect person refuse to give in and just being selfish, although he might not know it, but he's causing suffering to other people around him/her. if fact, he might break other's perfect life just be be perfect himself. good examples are drug dealers... by selling drugs to earn money and get what he wants, he destroy life of others.
so, what other want to be perfect, and just a single person refuse to be perfect? going back to the rubik cube, imagine a un-arranged rubik cube, all other five sides wants to have the same color, but the 6th side refuse to move. is it possible to solve the rubik puzzle?? lets say the 6th side has only green blue and yellow.. so u might think that the red and white surface will not be affected right? not exactly. thou the white and red surface might not be directly affected by the 6th side, but maybe the last pieces to complete both red and white is in green. therefore, the main problem causing thing is still in the 6th side refusing to move. in life, we rely on others to gain what we need to be perfect, and others rely on us in the same reasons and this goes on linking everyone together. if someone in the middle of the chain refuse to give what others need, then everyone behind the chain will be affected.
it is not impossible to solve a rubik cube, which in a way shows to us that all of us could have a perfect life if we are more willing to change, to give and take, and less selfish. if all side of a rubik cube is willing to move and change places even if the move away from its own side for a moment, at the end, it will sure return to its own side to make a complete perfect rubik cube. just as life, if we are willing to share our most important share such as time(volunteering) or money(donation) or even by spending 1 hour having a needle stuck in your arm to donate blood or blood products. afterall what goes around come around right.
