80,000 trees~

Kangaroo Island Nationally Threatend Plant Project has called upon volunteers to help in their program of planting 80,000 trees.. yes.. eighty-thousand trees on that island in 3 days. 1st i must note here.. THIS IS NOT A RECORD BREAKING PROJECT unlike some countries... making big events for a public stunt *ahem* *ahem*

small little welcome sign greet us on arival of planting ground

the land where 80,000 trees will grow

this project is divided into 3 days and involves about 200 people with 150 volunteers from my uni. my friends and i joined the 1st day as the 1st 50 volunteers to start off with the project. The plan was to re-establish threatend plant species in Kangaroo Island(KI).

the baby plants ready in the tray

single tray, each tray contains 50 smaller potted plants

We started our planting sessions early in the morning at 9.30 and it ends at 4.30 in the evening. and the plan was to plant about one third of 80000 plants. 50 of us is devided into groups of six and was led to a plot of empty land devided into 4 rows. each about 100m X 3m big.

lining up for our lunch.

clear blue sky, people in action

each row we will have to plant about 200 plants of about 20 species randomly to recreate the natural enviroment of the island. in a team of 6, we are devided into jobs of 'making the hole with the planter' , 'placing pots of plants next to the hole', 'planting the plant' and 'collecting the empty pots'. its alot of squarting and bending throuout the day. nevertheless it was fun and enjoyable. they even had a small competition on which group planted the most trees in 10 minutes. our group did 205 trees in 10 minutes pretty fast huh?? apparently 1 of the groups did 300+ in 10 minutes. and nobody belives them.. muahahahhaa

my team in action.. 2 pod, 2 physios', 1 business and 1 engineerin student. the one in orange is our leader.

the empty rows where we plant our plants

the organising commettie was superb!! at every 2 hours we have a break. we had morning tea, and lunch there. and the meals was quite good too given we are in the middle of no where without water and proper kitchen to cook. and during meals, we are given talks about the program and also their koala maintainence in the island. apparently, koalas are afraid of the color yellow.. hahhaa

2 of the many plants we planted

the plants will take about 4 to 6 years to fully grown and only the reall outcome of the program will be seen. although we had planted about 80,000 plants... not all of them will grow. as the law of nature states, survival of the fittest, mayb only half of them will grow as planed. the plants we planted will not be taken care off and nature will take its course on them. it would be nice to go back to the spot in 4 years time to see how our plants grew.

injuries of the day

the sunset bid farewell to us =)

we left the planting ground by 4.30 and leave the rest of the planting to group 2 and 3 for the next 2 days to complete. our team of 50 volunteers manage to plant about twenty something thousand on the day.

faces of disguise

"wenqi, can you help me??"
"huh?? what happen??"

a call in the morning, breaking the silence of my room, waking me up and made me thinking why are you calling? hearing the voice on the other end answered my 1st question. i went to your aid, but with a mind full of questions, but also knowing its not a good time to ask. your sound is different from the normal you, serious and nervous and hearing that, i left my lame jokes aside. i know this is serious and its not funny. meeting you up, tells me that you are at the edge of breaking down. and you did.

"hey, what do u think of me??"
i stated my answer
"hah, that's not me... this is the real me."

everyday, putting a strong look for the world to see, masking all ones problems, and only showing the happy and joyfull look for the world to see is part of human nature or at least for some. smiling at friends, laughing like they are the happiest people in the world and hiding well all the sorrows behind. does this makes one feel better?? or just makes one look stronger?? or they just want to keep their sorrows lock away deep inside and be happy for the few moments in life??

hiding these emotions are no easy task, i myself does it. everyone does it. hiding it from others and keeping it to myself just because there is too many questions ask when i share them. shadowing your troubles with your cheerful face and happy looks, that the world accept u are a happy and care free person, but, somehow, someday, you will be burden by these troubles that you crackdown. sometimes alone, or sometimes with someone that cares about you, but not given the chance before. revealing your true self to the world, shock and blank, the world react. how are we suppose to accept this? is being around when in need is enough??

"i don't know why when in front of you guys, my smile will automatically come out"
"well, i can see that.. people don't usually show their weak side out.."
"of course, we wont want to look weak to others..."

masking your sorrows from the world, putting a happy face when ever the world greets you sure must be a tired job. i myself tried before. behind all the laughter and joy, lies the problems and negative thoughts that you think no one could help you. you think that its better to keep the problems to yourself. If you ask, who wants to show their weakest side for the world to judge?? i will not be the ones that raise my hand for that question.

while the world judge the weak and look up to the strong, i still believe that help is everywhere and all you need to do is ask. i do not want to be a fair-weather friend where only laugh about with jokes and during happy times. all i ask for is to be a someone that could help you when the time needs. all you need to do is say you need help. thou i sense u need help, but without you opening up, there is no way the world could help you there. i am no psychic after all, and i don't do mind reading either.

the sound of the phone beeping, pointing out a message is receive. i saw that your matter is settled at the time being. i am glad.

internet

the sound of rain, hitting the roof
cooling down the day of winter,
hiding under his quilt horizontally, he typed
to dust a little, his orange site,
but the evil and mean connection,
disallowing him to do so,
giving up wasn't a option,
and orange keep fighting on,
for only his dear readers in his mind.
he fought with his mouse,
and the 'F5' button,
he fought bravely,
yet, little orange is weak,
the battle is lost and failure gloom.
"oh well" , orange sigh
you win tonight, but, don't be happy
for that i will win you back soon.

PES (post exam syndrome)

exams just ended last thursday. and i am still feeling tired up to this day....
well, overall, i did ok for my exams i guess, so now hopping for the best for all papers. *fingers crossed*

this exam was kind of a different experience overall compare to all other exams i have been through. the major difference is that, the exams are held in a different place from my Uni and all students have to take a 20 minutes bus to that veneu. other than that, exams are held in HUGE halls, where everyone from different courses sit and have their paper. Soooo... here is part of my experience...

on the 1st day of the exams, was a saturday morning 9.00 a.m. paper. and guess what time i woke up??? *insert suspense music* I WOKE UP AT 8.00 in the morning!!!! so.. u were wondering whats the big deal?? well, i promised a few of my friends that we will catch a cab to the exam veneu at 8.00. I called the cab to come pick us up at 8 and i woke up at 8!! geng a not?? i took 5 minutes to change, clean myself and made breakfast and another 5 minutes to meet up with my friends and catch the cab. talk about adrenaline rush man... lucky we planned to take the cab.. if not i most probably missed the bus already. phew~ we made it to the exam hall in time, everything went well after that. So.. lesson learned.. if you need to wake up early on a major event, get some one to get you up. there is a difference from waking up and getting up... never ever trust mobile phone alarms.. they kill....

on the last day of my exam, which was a thursday, my last paper was at 6.30 in the evening. and right before entering the exam hall, we have to group outside. man.. the wind was blowing and everyone was freezing. with the addition of the pre-exam-nervousness, somehow the shivering is almost similar to having a fits or epilepsy attack. the thermoreceptors in the skin will fire rapid impulses as if there will be no tomorrow.

another thing about that paper was, it was beyond expected.. we were conned by our lecturer!!! evil Evil EVIL!!!! haha.. joking lah.. she is one of the best lecturer for this sem. well, i guess is part of the students fault as well. we was given a revision lecture and the lecturer gave us 'tips' about the exam plus an exact extended answer(essay) exam question as bonus for our obedience in lecture. [see how kind of her...] SOOOOooooo.... as 'obedience' students, all most of us, treat that lecture as gospel and studied ONLY what ever she put in the lecture slides. OK.. thats not much problem... the problem is... WE... the obedience students went and spot other extended answer question that is coming out. AND.. worst part is we thought that the question she gave us was a 15 mark question. MANA TAU... when i saw the paper.... is only worth 5 marks... *BIG SWEAT* and many of the questions we tried to spot and memorised DID NOT COME OUT!!!! and what that is not in the revision lecture slides WAS ASK IN THE EXAM!!!! KNS betul
SOooo.. lesson learn, STUDY EVERYTHING.. AND...DO NOT EVER TRY TO BE SMARTER THAN THE LECTURER!!! no matter what tricks u do.. they will be always smarter... after all, knowing more is better than knowing less??

during all the exams, the brain is being so focus on that paper that i could not even day dream, i did not notice who is sitting around me, and so focus that i did not even remember to shake my legs or to chew my chewing gum which is sitting in my mouth between my upper and lower molar. i don't even remember that i was hungry because i didn't had a proper dinner for my last paper... geng a not??

oh well, now that everything is over, fingers cross, toes cross, eye cross, tongue cross, hand cross leg cross that the exam results will be good!!! please please pleaseeeeeeeeeeeee~

the orange~exams

while i was walking home today, after a long day in uni, spending almost 8 hours straight with biomechanics disscussions with my mates, i just realise 3 no.. 2 things.....

  1. EXAMS in THIS SATURDAY!!!!!
  2. IS THE END OF MY 1ST SEM IN UNI!!!
  3. HOLIDAYS ARE COMMING

point 1,
exams are begining on this saturday 9 oclock in the morning for my 1st paper and ends next thursday at 8.30 p.m. so, unless times like this, (its 1.45 a.m. now) when there are studies get overboard, there wont be much action here.. there are mix feelings of this exams, part of me telling me that i should do well, other part is telling me i cannot ever fail this exam. although the failing rate for one of the particular subject (anatomy) is freaking high, there are other stuff to worry as well... damn, shall i be worried or be confident?? no.. over confidence is sucide.. better be worried... =/

point 2,
in a blink of an eye is already 1 sem past.... will conclude everything that happen after my exams.. as always....

point 3
yay!! at last my 1st winter is coming.. so far i some plans in my break.. so, my 1 month is kinda not empty. yet not too full.

damn... screw you wenqi.. you are suppose to study and kick this site away....

*back to books........*
