kitchen

they say experience can teach you many things. and holding on to my part time job for 2 months, well, i gain some stuff.... you know you are in the kitchen when..... obviouly, the job i had before as an teaching asistant and the job now is a whole different world... so yea.. here it goes~

before going into the kitchen:
~what ever you bring.. a pair of rubber shoes must not be forgotten
~black is the color in the kitchen. is not because we look good in black. wait.. we do look good in black. =)
~after a while working.. you will notice that a cup of coffee will make you more alert in the kitchen. drink before going to work. COFFEE not alcohol.. COFFEE!!
~DON'T BE LATE!!! receiving phone calls from the restaurant in the middle of the day is never a good thing.

in the kitchen:
~you will pick up skills to be lazy with the same out come... or at lease look the same..
~the receptors in the hand will stop working for the whole time while you are in the kitchen. what ever cuts, scratch and burns will only be notice 30 minutes after you leave the restaurant. or when you notice blood all over the things you touch. as for burn, you will see you burn youself before you feel the pain. you will go... shit i burn myself (visual reflex) then... OUCH!!! (reflex action)
~sensors in fingers will evolve to calculsensors that when you take something, it will be the exactly the amount you want. 4 long bean, 4 broccoli, 4 capsicum, 4 carrot stick, 4.... 4.... 4.... 4....
~you will learn a whole new different kitchen language. exp: corri, roti, yellow and mango. and 'hot plate take away' doesn't exist.
~you will curse when there are too many people, you will also curse when there is nothing to do.
~watch out for flying empty plastic boxes
~microwave is your best friend in the kitchen
~every time you cook the rice, make sure u switch the rice-cooker on. if not.............
~time flies so slow that after washing a pile of dishes, clearing the dustbin, cook rice you only realise eh... only 30 minutes ah?? so slow de???? (this is because you are going so fast that it seems like the time slows down.. initial-D principal). it use to take 1 hour when i just started. =)
~you make so good friends with the kitchen items that you know which rack of the dish washer can hold 5 plates, which can whole 4, and you will know removing which bowl will cause others to fall onto the floor.
~washing dishes become so normal that, you ca fall asleep standing but your hands keep washing the plates.
~you will not like waiters that never clean the plates that is left in the corner..
~' i dont know', 'anything' or 'whatever' means chinese fry rice for staff meal.

back home from kitchen:
~1st thing you notice... you stink.
~apart from band aid, moisturizer will be your second best friend to fight against the main enemy, the dish washing soap.
~when ever you go to a restaurant and order, you will automatically imagine the whole process of cooking the dishes. and you will be nice to the people in the kitchen when the food is slow if the restaurant is busy.
~you will try to avoid to order certain dishes because you know its pre-cook and only reheating is needed.
~you will not share all this things all over the place because you know you are working to people that are closely relate to your friends.. so close that what ever you do in uni will be known in the kitchen
~your meal time are so screwed that you will have lunch at 3 and dinner at 12.
~when you cook at your own kitchen, you will always compare it with the kitchen at the restaurant.

i shall not tell you where exactly i work. and all above are just my point of view and nothing to do with the place i work. so yea... writer will not take any responsibilities on any outcome from this post.
