gaya street in Kota kinabalu city has been over run by lions and unicorn throughout the whole street. People has been running away fearing of being eaten alive by the fierce lion and being nail to the tree by the unicorn's horn. Government officials is now trying to round them up but so far no actions has been taken.
haha... just jocking.. there is no lions in South East Asia and there is also no unicorns in this world.. hehe. anyway today as i approach Gaya street or something like a flea market in KK. i was welcome by drums and symbols and gongs. the whole street is so cheerful welcoming these lion and unicorn troops. this two creatures are from the ancient Chinese history to scare of evil spirits. but nowadays its just to make Chinese new year more lively.
a Chinese lion picture i grab from yahoo search engine
although there is two human under the lion head.. hehe.. but a skilled dancer can really make the lion looks alive. some of them are quite cute thou.. furry head short n stumpy tail shacking.. but some are furious. but overall they are one of the most important Chinese symbol during Chinese new year. this tradition is dying due to over commercialization. but still full respect to those that still carry on this tradition!!! Happy Chap Goh Meh everyone. =P
