WHAT --> [hwuht, hwot, wuht, wot; unstressed hwuht, wuht]
also known as WAT, WHT, W, WUT
this is the most common and important person we use in our life especially in our multiple race country. here are some useful ways of using this important person
~to interrogate a request for specific information from someone
the most interesting example is where people is gossiping with their group of friends to ask the latest news. usually they start with the word WHAT before the other 'wifes' in their dialog. this gives importance to this person. afterall, i think she is like the mother of all questions...
~to express disappointment
'wat lah u', with some sighs at the end of the statement, shacking head left to right, intonation can be high n loud or sympathetically depending on the situation. but in this country, the most common way is shouting 'WHAT LARRR YOU" using some hand movement to increase the expression by moving the hand and palm almost face height or a little higher aiming at the person you r talking to. (karam singh style)
~use together with some kind of language to form a 'song'
the most widely use and mostly understand through out the whole world is this phrase "what the f**k" the last word can be replace by many other words of your choice agree? this is commonly use by people to express anger, pain, or just for fun. during instant messaging or while using the short message system(sms) WTF is to replace the phrase. this is also commonly heard among road users during a traffic jam during rush hour. and also use by pop groups in their songs. some how i think this the fastest phrase young children learn.
~use as a statement of intimidating or expressing shock
this is also quite widely use among people. by shouthing "WHAT" or better "WAT" at your opponent staring straight into their eyes with a fierce look, this actions will bring fear and people might pull back from whatever they are doing. or maybe they will reply "WHAT WAT??" and this will continue with the 'wat-ing' there until err... until one party stop i guess..
to express shock is jus saying 'wat' loud and with a little stress on the word. expression can be more real by opening the eyes wide and stare at the person for a while expressing some feeling of shocking.
